A Characterization of Product-form Stationary Distributions for Queueing Systems in Random Environment
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider continuous-time Markov chains representing queueing systems in random environment and we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for having product-form stationary distributions. The related topics of partial balance and the ESTA property are also studied. As an illustration, we apply the results to study the stationary distributions of Jackson networks in random environment. For models that do not satisfy the product-form conditions, we develop a product-form approximation, which is proved to be very good for models evolving in a slowly changing random environment. We justify this fact and we propose a methodology for estimating the error of this approximation.

A. Economou: a Characterization of Product -form Stationary Distributions
We consider a general model for continuous-time Markov chains representing queueing systems in random environment. First we study the relationship between its equilibrium distribution and the Palm (or embedded) distributions at certain environmental change epochs. The results enable one to obtain the equilibrium distribution of the continuous-time model in terms of the equilibrium distribution ...
متن کاملOn the Non-existence of Product-form Solutions for Queueing Networks with Retrials
During the last two decades, several authors have identified several classes of queueing networks (with batch movements, negative customers, signals etc.) that have product-form stationary distributions. On the contrary, there is a very slow progress in the analytic investigation of queueing networks with retrials and there does not exist a single example of such a network with a product-form s...
متن کاملQueueing Systems in a Random Environment
Queueing networks with product-form steady-state distribution have found many fields ofapplications, e.g. production systems, telecommunications, and computer system model-ing. The success of this class of models and its relatives stems from the simple structureof the steady-state distribution which provides access to easy performance evaluationprocedures. Starting from the ...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Lead Time Control in Multistage Assembly Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper we develop a multi-objective model to optimally control the lead time of a multistage assembly system. The multistage assembly system is modeled as an open queueing network, whose service stations represent manufacturing or assembly operations. The arrival processes of the individual parts of the product, which should be assembled to each other in assembly stations, are assumed to...
متن کاملMarkov network processes with product form stationary distributions
This study concerns the equilibrium behavior of a general class of Markov network processes that includes a variety of queueing networks and networks with interacting components or populations. The focus is on determining when these processes have product form stationary distributions. The approach is to relate the marginal distributions of the process to the stationary distributions of “node t...
